Recycle and Raise Funds
Every year over 400 million ink and toner cartridges and mobile phones are simply thrown away. These end up on landfill sites causing damage to our environment. An inkjet cartridge can take up to 1000 years to biodegrade and a nicad battery in a mobile phone can contain Cadmium, a toxic and carcinogenic substance.
The SSBA are aligned to a Recycling Appeal which donates a percentage of the cost of the recycled ink/toner cartridges, mobile phones or pda's back to the Association. Depending on what kind of ink cartridges you use the SSBA can arrange for boxes or freepost envelopes to be delivered to you. The envelopes can be put directly in the post with small inkjet cartridges or phones, or for larger quantities (Inkjet, toner cartridges etc).
The Recycling Appeal will arrange for them to be picked up by a courier, free of charge. A comprehensive list of all ctridges and phones accepted will also be provided.Whether recycling as an individual, at school or in work you will be directly reducing unnecessary and toxic landfill whilst raising vital funds for the Scottish Spina Bifida Association.
For further information on setting up the Appeal in your workplace or to have recycling envelopes sent out to you for your home, school or workplace please email Fundraising or call 01236 794508.
What can I recycle?
The Recycling Appeal accepts most toner and inkjet cartridges, but the value of each cartridge depends on its quality. We cannot currently recycle broken cartridges, toner bottles, ribbon cartridges and Epson ink jet cartridges.
As of February 2005, there are officially more mobile phones than people in the UK. 78% of the UK population currently own at least one mobile phone, and research shows phones are upgraded every 18 months on average. How many old mobiles do you have hiding in your drawers and cupboards?
There are literally hundreds of different mobile phones available and the Recycling Appeal accepts all makes and models.
Personal Digital Assistants, Palm Pilots, Blackberries €“ in our increasingly wired world, the variety of communication tools available changes quickly. If you€™re keeping up with the latest technology, the Recycling Appeal can use your old products to support your choice of Recycling Appeal.
All types of PDAs are accepted - units complete with battery and charger command higher values.
Please ensure all SIM cards and customer data are removed from mobile phones before returning them to Recycling Appeal. We can not be responsible for any loss incurred in the event of SIM cards or customer data not being removed from handsets.

Redeem is proud to have diverted more than 2000 tonnes from landfill and that's good news for all of us!
